The FIRST Tech Challenge is a scaled-down version of the FIRST Robotics Competition. During some years, Blue Cheese rookies (all new members) participate in this program as an introduction to the world of FIRST. We compete as FTC Team 93 (Blue Cheese Jr.) In 2016-17, we opted to instead mentor a new team coached by one of our alumni. Teams are given a different challenge every year and are required to build and program a robot using only a standard kit of parts provided to each team. FTC Robots are much smaller than FRC robots and must fit within an 18" by 18" by 18" cube. The FIRST web site has interesting stats in an infographic you can view here.

How can my child join an FTC team?

Visit the FIRST Tech Challenge web site to learn more about the program and discover how to find or start a team. There may be one at your school!  There are additional local resources available through the FIRST Chesapeake web site.  This year's FIRST Tech Challenge is called Velocity Vortex. Click here to see the kickoff video. Want to see FIRST Tech Challenge in action? There are many free events that you can attend in the VA/DC/MD region. Take a look at this calendar to learn more. All of these events are open to the public and are family friendly.
