Team 1086 continuously promotes FIRST ideals. We spread science, technology, and engineering knowledge through our partnerships with the community. We mentor FIRST LEGO League teams, we hold demonstrations to the public, and encourage the integration of FIRST into the school curriculum. We compete in the Virginia Regional Competition (formerly NASA/VCU Regional Competition) each year held in the spring. We also travel to Atlanta, Georgia for the National Competition where teams from all over the world come to compete. We actively participate in multiple off-season events including the Battle of Baltimore and the Robot Rumble at the Virginia State Fair.
All students currently attending Deep Run high School are welcome to join team 1086. Students in our area participating in FIRST LEGO League are encouraged to continue with FIRST and join our team when they graduate to Deep Run. Contact us at info@bluecheese1086.org for more information.
With our new program, the "Cheese Wiz Academy," anyone can participate in any area of the team by learning the skills they need to know before build season begins in January. Here is an overview of the diverse activities you can do on Team 1086:
FIRST offers students an opportunity to succeed in an exciting sports-like environment full of enthusiasm and competition. Students learn skills by working as a team, giving presentations, and learning engineering principles that will stay with them for a lifetime. FIRST Robotics offers 550 individual scholarship opportunities to active team members, valued at 9.8 million dollars!
Parents are essential to Team 1086's success. We rely on them for carpooling, food, and most importantly their time and help with fundraising for the team. Most of our parents mentor our team in specific areas such as building, fundraising, and spirit.
